Fix checkout errors before testing offers
Confirm that customers can complete a purchase on every major device and browser before running an experiment. Otherwise, the test measures broken checkout behavior.
- Use HTTPS across the complete site and checkout.
- Show customers who runs the business and how to reach it.
- Validate desktop, mobile, and tablet behavior in Chrome, Safari, and Edge.
- Make checkout buttons large, legible, high contrast, and easy to reach on mobile.
- Ask only for necessary checkout fields and size them properly for each device.
A/B testing ideas
Test one checkout change at a time
Once the basics work, isolate one change and measure it. Changing the entire checkout at once hides what helped or hurt.
- 1Checkout progress indicators
Show customers where they are and how much remains. - 2Sticky headers or footers
Keep the next action accessible without obscuring the checkout. - 3Seasonal discounts
Test promotional offers during periods when urgency is naturally higher. - 4Time-limited offers
Use clear, truthful deadlines and compare their effect on completion. - 5Apple Pay and Google Pay
Reduce data entry for customers using supported wallets.
